Hello there. My computer at home is connected to my 42" plasma TV. I play video files on my computer and watch them on the plasma as my monitor.
I like to use the video player on my computer to stretch the video to fill up the whole screen. I have noticed that video files with the largest frame sizes look the best after they are stretched.
Currently I use hand brake to create video files from DVD's. I want to get the best quality I can, so i was wondering if there is there another free software program besides handbrake which would allow me to create larger frame sizes?
Am I on the right track here?
Any insights you can provide would be appreciated.
Thanks!!
TC

A ripper just rips the video from the DVD. At this point the video frame will 720 x 480 (NTSC) or 720 x 576 (PAL). If you are using Handbrake then you are also converting the video, which is probably resizing as well.
So you have to learn how to use handbrake to make sure it doesn't reduce the resolution too far. Simplest way is to tell it to keep the width 720 pixels and, if necessary, resize the vertical.
Start by looking at what it is currently creating, Use Mediainfo to see what resolution you are getting. If you are asking for a particular filesize, Handbrake may be reducing the resolution to quality higher at the chosen bitrate. The higher the resolution, the higher the bitrate required to maintain the quality.Read my blog here.
