    About half are fine, half have errors. So out of a pack of 25, only 12or so are fully successful. By fully successful, I mean the data can be transferred back to the HDD. They all burn successfully according to Nero, but I do my own check of trying to copy the data back to the HDD, it's then where I encounter problems, such as the drive stopping responding because of Data Redundancy CRC errors (or soemthing like that).

    I'm mostly using Datawrite Titanium dark grey top dvd-r's at the moment, but it seems to happen with most media I tried (done loads in the past, ridisc, datawrite greys, verbatims, imations etc).

    My DVD burner is a Lite-On SOHW-1633S using the latest firmware (tried a few versions), is it time for a new one? I've had it a couple of years now. Any recommendations? Cheers.

    Before you throw away your burner, try x-flashing your 1633S to 1653S CS0T (multi-colored LED) firmware. Get the file at C0deKing web page.

    LiteOn SOHW-1653S
    * CS0T - patched - crossflashing, multi-colored LED (for 1213S, 1613S, 1633S, etc.)

    I worked out that burning at 6x helped alot.

    Burning at 4x made it go really wierd a lot of times (complete sectors missing), and 8x produces these CRC errors ever 1 in 2 discs or so.

    Any idea why 6x is the win?

    This is a brand name. It means absolutely nothing.

    The drive uses a different write strategy. Did you try the new firmware?

    No, I'm apprehensive to change anything now I've found a way of getting good burns because I'm low on discs. I may give it a try in the near future.

    Now my LiteOn SOHW-1693S do not want to burn my media. Looks like it is only accepting Sony 8x or 16x media.

    But when I scan it it is full of errors... This burner will be used only for scans and reads...

    I'm back at my NEC 2500 @ 2510 firmware 2.F9. This old NEC drive is a really bad reader, but an outstanding burner.
