Movie incorrectly burns to dvd at 4:3 instead of 16:9 in Encore 2.0 -HELP!

Hello. I have an issue from hell!!! I want to make sure I am not losing my mind here:

I am running Encore 2.0 and am burning a disc (on a Plextor 750uh dual layer drive) that contains a simple menu (16:9) and a movie file (.m2v 16:9). For some ghastly reason, it burns the movie at 4:3 (stretched) instead of widescreen although the menu burns correctly in the 16:9 format.

For the life of me I cannot understand why. I have checked every possible setting in Encore to see what is causing this. I have tried different media (though both brands of media are Verbatim), I have even tried re encoding the movie file from scratch, and still same old nightmare. It doesnt help that dual layer discs are about 6 bux a pop and I've gone through 9 of them

Is there a problem with Encore? my drive? for the love of dvd's what's happening?

Running XP SP2 on a p4 2.6 with a gig of ram
