Hello everyone. I had to ship back my OPPO DVD player because a lot of my burnt DVD's freezed up 3/4 of the way thru the movie. Those same DVD's work fine (for the most part) in my JVC XV-NP10S. They are burnt DVD's on DVD-R's. I am looking for a reigon free, Divx/Xvid, all formats DVD player. Something very versitle that can play anything you throw at it. I was looking at the LG DF9921P. Does anyone have any player suggestions up to or around $200? I hear the Pioneer Elite's have a really good DVD decoder.

    I thank you,

    Arm

  2. An Xbox makes a great player with XBMC or the new software from MS that doesn't reequire modding.

Look at the Toshiba SD3990. It's a great machine, and only $50 from Crutchfield, or $60 at Best Buy.

It works great for Divx/Xvid. And does PAL to NTSC.

There's a region hack for it, but I have never tried it as I don't have anything other than Region 1 or Region 0 discs.

I'll sell you four of my players for $200. Of course, I'll be making about $100 on the deal. Anyone paying more than $40 for a DVD player is getting ripped off in my opinion. My last two were free with other purchases and work great.

I'll look into the Toshiba. I don't know to much about them. I would get worried if I paid 40$ for a DVD player. I feel that is to cheap and wouldn't be good quality.

Pioneer makes a wicked good player - the 4 year old 343 that I've got is still going.

I thought it crapped out a few years ago, until I found out about problems reading BeSweet encoded audio. Once that was cleared up, I drug it out and started using it again.

Plays everything it's supposed to, doesn't give the "H07" error like Panasonics.

Id say you either had a bad player or you have bad media. From your comments sounds like a little of both. I've had my Oppo since early December, and it has worked flawlessly. The only problem I've had with any movies, are discs that I haven't removed the labels from yet.

  10. I think he should update the firmware on the Oppo and see if that fix the issue

  11. i've got a few dvd players....and in all honesty of the ones i own, the best one i have is my cyberhome one...it plays EVERYTHING i throw at it dvd wise......i do have one of the phillips divx ones, too...ad for me at least, it works just fine.....though i have seen a lotta people complain about them, i guess i just got lucky? For whatever it's worth, i seem to have MORE issues with the more expensive dvd players that i own....

I don't know about others having problems with the Philips, but I've had a 642 since Christmas & it's played everthing I've put in it. I burn a lot of my own & it plays them. The Cyberhome I had before that always skipped & would NOT play RW's. The 642 does.

I have 2 of the DVP642's, both over 2 years old. They work pretty good, no complaints, but they don't have the picture quality of the Oppo.

For $40.00, I don't think there is a player that can play all vidoe format plus Audio-DVD and SACD.

People actually use Audio-DVD or SACD? What a waste of disc space. I thought those were just gimmicks to make you pay more. Kinda like that incredibly slow monochrome labeling system called lightscribe.

    Thanks for responding everyone.

Krispy Kritter: I just sent back my OPPO because some DVD's would work in my JVC but not my OPPO. I liked the OPPO a lot but most of my DVD's couldn't be played in it. It also wouldn't play the audio to Twin Peaks which is a must.

I do think, after all, it's a meida issue when it came to the OPPO cus that seemed like a good quality player. A lot of my DVD's seem to be going bad. A lot will skip 1/2+ thru the film ultimatally to freeze up. Then there are some that play all the way through. 99% of my DVD's can play on a PC. Most where ripped with DVD Decrypter and transcoded and burned with dvdshrink.

whitejremiah: I've also heard that cheaper dvd players seem more versitle. I just can't get around the fact of a cheap dvd player. It just doesn't sit well.

    I just orderd the LG DF9921P: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=9722820595&sspagename=ADME%3AL%3ART...%3AUS%3A1&rd=1
