  1. Is this strictly a media thing? These discs worked fine till recently(memorex also some cheap brand playo) now they don't.SWindows XP 5.1

  2. now the sony discs won't work either, so it can't be media.drive is updated,cleaned the lens.
    cds seem to burn ok.Recently dvd decripter didn't want to read the dvd(sometimes)saying incompatible medium.This time it did read it though,just the burn failed

    My guess is the burner is failing. CDs use a different laser, so that's no indication that the DVD laser is working properly. You cleaned the laser lens, tried different media, it has problems reading DVDs also. If you are sure your media is good, you could try a burner firmware upgrade, burn with a different program, such as DVD Decrypter or ImgBurn, but if it still fails, consider replacement.

    Generally a power calibration error is hardware related. Either the burner or the media. Dirt on the lens, a failing laser or the laser mechanism itself, or incompatible media is the cause.

  4. I upgraded firmware,tried a different program ,nero dvd decrip 3 diff media.I read this burner is a piece of junk.I think its time for a new one.thanks for your time,I appreciate it
