  1. I have an avi file which is 22gb in size.

I wanted to create a dvd from it and used avi2dvd with the same settings that i used many times before and the end result (dvd) is that the picture has horizontal lines.

    See image:

I dont know where to start with this one, it has worked fine many times before and it has worked ok. This one i have tried twice and both times its resulted in horizontal lines.

The only difference is that the avi file is much bigger. Normally its been 13gb, this time i wanted to join 2 together. Could that be it?

    Edit:
Tried it with a smaller file and it was exactly the same, horizontal lines.

Looks like bad codec or horizontal translation. Can you play the AVI file by itself okay?

Yeah, the avi itself is ok.

Then I'd say you picked the wrong choice when you did NTSC -> PAL or PAL -> NTSC.

Let me clarify that. What that looks like is... Say your screen is 10 digits wide.

    1234567890
    __________

But when the video stream is decoded, the width is read as anything BUT 10.

    123456789
    _________
    _

Thus, the video's slanted / off.

Also, load AVI into GSpot. We need to know which codec it uses also.

  6. This was an avi as a result of a dv capture using windv.

I then added the date and time using dts8888 and used avi2dvd.

This process i have done many times and cant think why this one would be any different.

    Gspot...

    4cc: dvsd
    Name: DVC/DV Video

I created the same dvd using convertxtodvd, it worked ok in that BUT the quality wasnt as good as avi2dvd so i am keen to try and get avi2dvd to work.

  7. I think its to do with the encoder. In avi2dvd i changed it from hcenc to one of the others, and it worked. But again the quality was no where near good.

I have downloaded the latest version of hcenc but the end result is the same.

I downloaded it and placed it in the avi2dvd directory. Is that all i need to do? Do i have to copy dll's etc anywhere?

There should be a separate directory for the HCEnc. Just replace the existing version with the new one you downloaded.

You also have to play with the encoding settings. Turn on all the goodie options like Trellis, 2-pass, extreme, etc. for best quality (but a lot longer encoding time)

  9. I did. Even tried all the different matrices in Henc, no joy.

Why would it suddenly do this?
