  1. Ave,

I'm really new to the entire HDTV scene so i need some help. Here's my situation.

    I have a 52" HDTV with 1 Component Input & 1 DVI Input.
I have a Time Warner HDTV Cable Box (Reciever) and a Panasonic Home Theater System (DVD Player)... both support Component & DVI Output.

I already have a Acoustic Research Component Cable.
I dont have a DVI cable, and need to buy one.

    My first Question is:

    A) Should i Connect my DVD Player to the HDTV using Component / Cable box to HDTV using DVI? Or the other way round? Or it doesn't matter? (Currently i have the DVD Player to HDTV using Component Cable).

    B) As i said, i need to buy a DVI Cable.. when i looked it up on the Internet, there were too many choices... i don't know the differences, i do understand i need a DVI-D cable to go into my HDTV... but i don't know if my Cable Box or DVD Player needs the same DVI-D or HDMI or something else to go into it's Socket for the output.

    C) In case i do need a DVI-D Dual Link Cable, can someone suggest an economical Price/Place to get it from?

    Thanks,
    Mickey

Give us the model numbers of your HDTV and cable box (Scientific Atlanta 8300HD?).

    A. Usually DVD player (720x480p) component and HD cable box (1920x1080i) with DVI.

    B. Time Warner should provide you with either a component or DVI cable. You already paid for it.

    C. You need DVI-D single link. If you need to buy one try here.

  3. Ave,

Thanks for your reply. Actually i didn't get a reply for quite a while and did quite a bit of research in this meantime. I did discover what you just stated, DVD Player-Component, HD Cable Box-DVI. So i'll be going with that concept.

Time Warner provided a basic Component Cable. I already own 2 Acoustic Research Component Cables. I'm using one to connect my DVD player to my HDTV.

I did also find out that i need to get a DVI-D Cable. I've seen some options on the Internet, ramelectronics was actually one of them.

    Thanks again.
