my verbatim + DLs will playback on my apex player, but not on sony. is this strictly a disc issue, or would writing method matter? i.e. if i write w/ nero, would playback differ when writing w/ DVD decrypter or another program (resulting in higher compatibility?).

    thanks

+R D/L playback compatibility is a pain in the butt.
Sony's playback abilities of recordable media is a pain in the butt.

    Nero vs. DVDDecrypter?
    I'd pick DVDDecrypter hands down.

I have the old flagship the SLD-7700 Sony. It sometimes play the disc and sometimes it does not.

The Philips 642 that was $60 plays everything like the computer DVD player. On a 32" TV, the Philips looks just as good as the Sony.

sounds subjective, do you have evidence that either one allows for better DL playback compatiblity?

For starters.....a D/L to D/L backup/copy done with DVDDecrypter will be an exact copy of the original...including the layer break but minus the protections placed on the original...if there were any in the first place.

Secondly....DVDDecrypter allows for bitestting of +R discs(if necessary or required)...though only on certain makes of DVD Burner. The latest incarnation of DVDDecrypter(the one that only burns) is probably even better than DVDDecrypter.

Looks like Sony is very sensitive. I have Sony DVP-NS725P ($100.00, BestBuy).

I have also CyberHome CH-DVD 300 ($39.99, BestBuy). I bought it for the reason of testing back-ups. CyberHome plays those disks that Sony can not take and quality of picture is way better: its sharper and juicier.

The ONLY problem with CyberHome is that its taking long time (around 1 minute) to load disk. Sometimes you would need to re-insert it.

Did you set the bitsetting (booktype) to DVD-ROM before burning? You can do it with CD/DVDspeed. Some standalones are better that others at playing DL media.

It should....or it is supposed to. I've never tried anything else than a straight D/L to D/L copy with DVDDEcrypter.
The settings can be found here in DVDDecrypter:
Tools – Settings – ISO Write Mode – Layer Break (for DL Media ) – Calculate Optimal

well thanks for all the replies hech54 and every1. i usually do only main movie + some extras w/ my backups, so DVD Dec. doent make an exact copy (i usually dont use iso read). and i have my benq 1640 set to bitset for DVD-ROM.

maybe i'll try to do "Heat" w/ DVD Dec.
