Recently I've attempted to transfer my home digital tapes from my sons 2004 football season to DVD media. This data is usually transferred via Firewire to my C/temp file. Most of the time the files are in the range of 6 to 7 GB so usually I attempt to burn to DVD+DL Verbatim disks using DVD Shrink with preference set to 8.5 GB w/o compression. On occasion I will use DVD Shrink just to see if I can get around the problem if the files are compressed and burned to either DVD+RW or DVD+R or DVD-RW Verbatim disks. I have also tried adding the video-TS files directly to Nero burning program to try to get around the problem. My system uses Samsung TS-H552B CD/DVDW burner and Nero Express 6 Version 6.3.1.17 Gateway software. About 50% of the burns seem to stop with the message "Reset Occurred" sometimes followed by "Illegal Disk", usually the log seems to consistenly mention Line #304 being the area in the burn process that is related to the "Reset" It seems to be a role of the dice whether I get a platter or a success. Is this most likely a problem with the burner (system is 18mos old). I'm not familiar with how to copy the Log to be able to post with this inquiry. Any help with that process and I will try to post a copy of the Log from one of these failed events. Thanks for any help or from my end I'll try to forward additional information that might be requested to see if I can get around this problem.

  2. Update firmware( www.rpc1.org ) and update Nero to 6.6...you might also try making an ISO with DVDShrink and burn with DVDDecrypter. Also make sure DMA is enabled for all drives.
BTW...Nero will ask you at the end of a burn if you want to save a log file, then simply copy and paste.

Thanks "Dude" for the suggestions. The firmware update may have been the answer. Still working with these tips. Will try to download another game footage and see the next results. Seems like my Nero program allows a copy of the log if the burn is successful, but when the burn fails that option is not available.

Thanks "Dude" for your suggestions. I've spent the last 10 days trying to become more informed about the need for Firmware updates, better understanding of the whole DMA issue, and how to review my log "history" in both Nero and DVD Decrypter. I think I've got a better understanding and working with DVD Decrypter and/or just burning the Video_TS files directly with Nero (instead of going thru DVD Shrink burn to Nero process) has been successful with the last 4 football video burns. Not sure that 'The Bug' has been resolved with the DVD Shrink burn to Nero pathway. Still using the Nero 6.3.1.17 version, and not sure that I want to update to 6.6 version at this time, until I've finished this current set of projects. Sounds like others have had some problems with 6.6 version. So I'm content at this time to work with DVD Decrypter for the burns.
    Sincerely,

Possibilities: bad burner (loose IDE, power cable), bad software or bad media (in likelihood order). I think burner/hardware is at fault. Drives are cheap so don't waste too much time with it. Reinstall (uninstall, then clean tool from Nero and reinstall) software. If same look closer at your Samsung drive...

I had a bad batch of Verbatim 16x DVD+R and some of the failed disks ahowed the errors you have seen.

Same drive and lots of other Verbatim 16x disks (great media) no recurrances.
