    Plextor 712a (Firware v5), Nero 5.5.10.7, TYG02 Media.

I've had no problem with this combination for well over a year now, until a week or so ago. Now I'm getting the error, "failed to finalize disc at once”. I got this error backing up The Polar Express, more times than I wish to admit (6). Never had the problem before. I wrote the disc successfully with DVD-Decrypter. No here's what strange ... the discs seem o.k. ... They play in my standalone just fine and the scans with PlexTools look fine. I guess I should have tried that before making six backups (coasters?).

I'm also running AnyDVD ... could the latest update be conflicting with Nero? Is there a problem with Nero ... corrupted? ASPI layer ... corrupted?

What in the heck is going on? Any suggestions / recommendations?

    Thanks.

First , remove drive from pc , turn it on its side , give it a few gentle slaps , and a shake , put back in pc , when up and running , eject tray , and blow some air through it .

This fixed one pc's problem so far , dont know , must have been making toast with it or something .

Next , update the bios if available , and try burning again , if no problem now , enjoy .

    Still problem , try using tdk dvd-r , it's never failed .

Still no go , unistall every single tool , program that has to do with dvd ripping and burning , restart pc .

Install only your main dvd burning package , restart pc , try burn again .

If problem still exists , it'll be a problem with either a system driver that has become corrupted , or a registry setting has been modified .

Before attempting a complete system reinstallation , try ...

As a last resort , use system restore , but warning , any program that was installed after system restore point will have there executables nulled . All these programs will have to be uninstalled , and reinstalled to fix them .

Nice , ms didnt mention this drawback ...

If still no go , get the drive to a friends pc and see if it works there .

If it gives same error , drive itself has developed a problem , if possible , return under warrantee .

Beaware of the media type drives support , using the wrong type can cause these problems ... if your drive dosent support + media types , then do not use them ... most late drives do .

I use (and usually like) Nero quite a bit for burning DVDs and CDs but every now and then, it does this on me, too. I would definitely upgrade to 6.x, whatever's most current (before 7, haven't messed with version 7) as that can fix a lot of weirdness.

Something to check that helped me: Run disk defragementer (uh, you are running XP, yes? I'm too lazy to go back and see :P), a couple of times I've burned DVDs that got all the way to the end (burning) before barfing (@#$@#!!!) and just grasping at straws, I ran defrag on all the drives and there were a lot of fragmented files, and after that I had no more problems.

So if you haven't defragged you hard drive(s) lately, give that a shot. Good luck!

I think I might have found the culpruit here, but it's only circumstantial. We let our 5-year old son watch a movie on my computer or our laptop (in the study) before he goes to bed at night. At best as I can tell he was getting into and checking out my blank TYG02 media. Since asking him to leave my blank disks alone the problem I had some of the TYG02 burns seems to have stopped as quickly and unexpectly as it begun.

No hard evidence though ... it's still possible that I just got a hold of a troublesome batch and once I got through those everything was ok again ...
