I want to be able to record from terrestrial but more importantly Sky Digital channels. The only possible hurdle I can spot is that I don't have the Sky box in my room. The signal is routed from another room by an ariel cable. So I won't be able to make a direct connection to that box from the PC.
My question is can the connection be as simple as S Video on the capture card to S Video on the TV? I currently also have an S Video to Scart lead to watch my computer videos on my PC. Could the reverse work, provided of course that I take the S Video end out of the graphics card and put it into the capture card? I am also aware of the audio aspect, but I understand that pretty well, which is why it's not mentioned.

Your S Video connection would have to be from the Sky Digital box. S Video connectors on a TV (usually all inputs on a TV) are for input, they don't output video.
