Is it common to get different results with different drives?
My external BenQ DVD drive has no problem scanning my backups and rarely gives any errors but my internal LG 4163B tends to show errors on the some of the same discs.

If you are talking quality scanning absolutely, but obviously you are referring to error scanning (scan disk function in CD/DVD Speed terminology). I know Plextors, Lite-Ons and Benq's are the best scanners (with few exceptions). Given your two drives I would trust the Benq. Maybe the LG is a picky reader. I'm not all that familiar with DVDinfoPro but on those disc's the LG shows errors, get a copy of CD/DVD Speed and run a transfer rate test on the Benq. If it shows a nice steady graph then I'm sure it's ok. Your program may have that feature - don't know. You can get CD-DVD Speed here:Originally Posted by methos8

BenQ's are generally very good scanners, what kinds of numbers is DVDInfoPro giving you?

Can you show me a graph of a good scan I've done a few scans but have know idea what I am looking @ or for. The only thing I can understand is the error checking and that always comes up green. What We Do In Life, Echoes In Eternity.... -
I was referring to a transfer rate test in CD DVD Speed. Here is a good scan example:
