I have 2 Pioneer burners, running windows xp2. Neither drive will refresh. When I remove one movie (or data disk) and put in another The info showing in explorer is from the previous disk. If I right click the drive in explorer and click on eject and then put the new disk in it refreshes to the new disk. The same thing happens in power dvd I must re-click on the drive letter.

Is this a drive problem? Is it a windows problem? Is it a known Pioneer problem?

    Does anyone have an answer?

    Thanks

    I should add the drives are, 111D flashed to 111L 8.29 and 112D 1.15

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it and it solved the autoload thing but the drives still don't refresh.

Automatically Refresh File Lists in Explorer

While viewing Windows Explorer, you pop out one CD and insert another. Sometimes the CD drive information doesn't update. This little reg tweak can help out. It also speeds up overall viewing in Explorer.

Change the value of UpdateMode in

    HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Update

    from 01 to 00.

It's a Windows thing. It's existed for many years now. It tends to be specific to motherboards and the drivers. It's not the drive, no.

You'll go nuts trying to fix it, so don't bother.

I started having a similar problem last week. Performed a system restore to about a week earlier and that solved it. MS has a hotfix for it in beta phase on their web site. Link Here
Part of the problem for me tuned turned out to be most recent version of VMWare Player. The previous version worked fine. I can't say the most recent version alone is the root cause because I have it on another PC and it works fine. Other programs can cause it but it hasn't been narrowed down. Hope it helps some.

Yes , I agree with lordsmurf on that one , as you have three unique groups .

    Group 1 :

Ms developed the os , and still has specific issues with refreshing content in windows explorer , and their current release of updates in the last two years has caused issues .

Lets not forget that lame system restore , if you use it , any program installed after the restore point date will have all their executables nulled , and you need to uninstall all those affected , and reinstall them , nasty .

    Group 2 :

Hardware developers and their drivers .

My nvidia gpu came with developers drivers for sli , what the ? , did that cause headaches .

    Group 3:

Software developers , esspecially those that develope bloatware , like nortons antivirus which is known to tax the system , even when its not doing anything .

Group 1 should have fixed the os problems well before this time .
Group 2 has been known to screwup driver development on many occasions .
Group 3 , those who develope bloatware should stay the hell out .

All this mangled mess can result in the systems registry becoming bloated with irrelevant keys , which degrade the systems performance eventually .

    ----

Could still be related to windows messenger / msn messenger , dont get these two mixed up .

    ----

If you have any non-essential devices connected to the pc , especially via usb , remove them , reboot , and see if it improves .

Was working with usb / aspi a couple of years ago , and found similar issues appeared with optical drive content not refreshing under win95 / win98 / se / me , though its relaventcy under xp is unknown , but highly likely (have not had the time) .

What burning programs are installed on the pc involved ?

    Check aspi version .

On open Explorer windows, Windoze has had this problem forever. To get a window to actually update, navigate to the TOP LEVEL (where is says "My Computer") and then refresh. That usually works for me.

Or, you can close the old Explorer and open up a new instance.
