  1. This is a very simple problem, and has nothing to do with video DVD players. With an external DVD burner, when I burn a +RW DVD for a simple data backup, the burned disk usually works in my laptop for a while, then stops working. I can pull it out, put it back in, and it won't work.

In attempt to improve the compatability, I select the "do not allow more files later" which is supposed to make it more universally compatible. But usually get the same result. It's almost as if the problem starts after the drive and disk physically warm up. One thing I've noticed, but believe is strictly coincidence, is that sometimes things fall apart with my ability to read the DVD when I use windows media player to play an AVI clip stored on the DVD. The burner is a buslink dual format, not quite 2 yrs old I'd say. Sorry if I haven't used the forum properly, I couldn't find anything specifically on this, but could perhaps have looked harder.

There was another post concerning this issue recently. The problem seemed to be the result of "directcd" or other similar technologies that allow you to write to the RW disc like it is a floppy disc. The fix was to burn the data to the disc like a regular cdr/dvdr, it can still be reused at a later time.
