  1. If I have a Divx file with two audio tracks, one English and one Spanish, what's the easiest way to strip out the Spanish one? And can it be done in VirtualDub? Thanks!

Load the avi into virtualdubmod. Select Streams -> Stream List to bring up the audio streams. Move the one you want to the top of the list if it isn't already. Disable the one you don't want. Make sure audio and video are set to Direct Stream Copy and save it as a new avi file.

  4. Hi,

I have a similar problem: a avi video with one Spanish and one English. I want to remove the first audio track. I used virtualdubmod to open the file and got the message "Virtualdub has detected an improper VBR audio....". I tried to use nandub, but it can't remove audio. Is there any other way to do it?

    Thank you,
    Jean

When virtualdub comes up with the error (it is actually more of a warning) you can simply answer no, if you don't intend to change the audio. Then follow the process described above. VBR MP3 is evil and ugly, but it won't stop you doing what you want to do.

  6. guns1inger,

    Thank you. It works!

    A couple of related questions:

I remember that when I see "Virtualdub(mod) has detected an improper VBR audio...." and still run it, the resulted video/audio will be out of synch. However, this time it is okay. Do you know what makes the difference? (I used Virtualdub direct video).

You mentioned that use direct "audio". There is "direct audio" option in Virtualdub, but not in Virtualdubmod. Therefore I don't specify anything about audio except disable the 1st one. Do I miss anything here?

    Thanks,
    Jean

'Direct Stream Copy' - there is one of these for video and one for audio. The audio mode will be on the right-click menu of the streams list.

The VBR MP3 warning is really only of consequence if you are editing or re-encoding. If you are converting avi to DVD, for instance, many programs will either refuse to convert VBR MP3, or will produce unpredictable results. In these instances, say yes when VdubMod asks the question, then go tinot the streams list, set the mode to full processing, the compression to uncompressed wav, then do a save Wav to create a clean, CBR uncompressed wav file for conversion.

  8. i'm not a hundred percent positive on exactly what causes the audio synch issues when using vbr mp3, but my best guess is that basically the video playback software (or hardware) expects cbr video when playing the video back, but because of the fluxuation in bitrates with vbr audio, it can kinda throw things off......just a guess though, honestly im not sure....i use VBR for my car audio and that works just fine for that......but yea, if you intend on doing any further conversions, just follow guns1inger's advice.....using that method can sometimes fix synch issues if you ever run into a video that doesnt seem to be quite in synch, too......

  9. Thank you. Now I see "direct stream copy". It was the default- that is why the results were good even without specifically selecting it.

Thank you for all your help!
