  1. I have an AVI file of 713Mb. I can't get 800Mb cdrs easily here, so I thought I'd put it either onto DVD or shrink it to fit a 700Mb cdr.

Using TMPGEnc to make the DVD files was fine, but got no sound when playing the DVD. Using TMPGEnc to make an mpeg of 690Mb was fine, but again, no sound. So I tried to strip off the wav file using audiodub and it said it needed a VFW Codec. So I downloaded the XVid codec, installed it fine and got the wav off. The wav is fine - can hear the audio no problem.

I then used TMPGEnc to make another mpeg, this time using the wav as the audio source, but again, the resulting mpeg has no sound.

    Help!

What audio type are you telling TMPGEnc to make ? AC3 ? MP2 ?

A Gspot (Latest beta - V2.52) of the MPEG file may answer a number of questions. Check out https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=271697 for assistance with taking and uploading a screencap.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  3. What is your aim? To put the avi on disc or to convert it to mpg?

How did you get the WAV out of the AVI? If you're not that well aquainted with VirtualDub, it's pretty common to think you've decoded to wav, but in reality all you have is the original audio with a .wav extension, and a wav header.
I suggest using Goldwave for extracting AVI audio to wav - just load the AVI, save wav.
