Capture high res JPEG

Is there good software that will grap a high-res JPEG or TIFF (or any other high res image format) from a DVD. When I grab a frame it ends up losing detail due to its lack of resoulution. I need to keep all the detail in the image.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

NTSC DVD's=720x480
PAL DVD's=720x576

Frame grabs from DVD's don't get any higher rez than that. It'll be better with HiDef material, but for now, that's the best you can get.

IIWY, I'd save to TIFF/BMP/PNG, not JPG. That just re-compresses the image.

But the top-of-the-line app is called something like Pavarazzi. It's very expensive ($279), and the professional videograhper use it to extract Hi- Res images from their films. Could not find a link for it with Google, so I must have misspelled it.

If you have PowerDVD, you can go into the settings and select capture image at screen size. You can then capture @ full screen and end up with an image the size of your desktop resolution (1024x768 or whatever).

Note that the image is upsampled from original size by the software, but it does a decent job of it. If you want to make it even bigger, you can resize it up using Irfanview (Free). It will let you select Lanczos Filter (among others) to resize and maintain great quality. I've actually made some decent 8x10 prints from some pretty crappy VHS footage after extensive filtering.
