  1. Hi,

I have two Xvid movies wich I am unable to play on my dvd/divx-player.
For the first one, it's because it uses quarterpixel. I wish to reencode this movie, without this option but with everything else the same. What program should I use for this (and how to use it, I'm not a pro ?

For the second movie, I just have to downscale the resolution. Again, what program should I use?

    Thx in advance

Haven't used it, can't vouch for it, but it says it can do what you want. AVI ReComp

  3. I've tried this program, along with others, but everytime I get the error "Statsfile not found" and "invalid sample format".
I got this error in Avi recomp, vdubmod and tmpgenc 3.0 express.

So I don't know what causes this error. Has anyone a clue?

    Corrupt download ?
You could try to repair it with Divfix or Divx Repair, but more than likely things won't change.

I believe you can get the 'statsfile not found' error if your encoder is set for multiple passes and you try to do a one pass encode. The first pass creates the statsfile and the second uses it to improve compression. Check the encoder settings.

  7. I have another question

Where in virtualdubmod can I choose a resolution? Or do I have to set it in the encoder properties (xvid). I've searched a lot in both but didn't find anyting.

I am also having the 'statsfile not found' error, but I am trying to do a 2-pass encode? Any ideas on what could cause this?

For a 2-pass encode the encoder needs 2 (or more) passes. During the first pass it examines the video and creates a file full of statistics about each frame. During the second pass it uses that statistics file to determine how best to allocate bitrate to meet your average bitrate requirement.

You get the "statsfile not found" error when that statistics file can't be found at the start of the second pass. This might be because you didn't perform the first pass (so the file was never created), you performed the first pass but had a invalid location for the statistics file, or you deleted the statistics file between the two passes.
