  1. When I burn certain movies to DVD-R or CD-R I am having problems with the playback on my TV. The video is very streaky and when something moves on the screen they leave behind a trail. Basically an unwatchable movie...

I am using a Philips DVP642 and most of the movie work.

This is only in regards to movies I am downloading.

    Thanks,

    J

So you're not going to tell us what format those movies are, what codec did those movies use, what resolution they are, or any other information about them?

Would be kinda hard to help you if you don't...

If downloaded from filesharing sites these movies are typically recorded from a PAL source which do not show up correctly on NTSC equipment. You will get a b&w pitcure, streaking colors, ghost imaging and so on. Where's your source for these movies?

The DVP642 and other ESS based players have problems with CQM's, but then DivX can't encode using CQM's. Perhaps your file was compressed with XviD?

  8. Ok... Ok... so I am new to this...

Divx what?? I didn't know I had a choice... where can I find the answer to "what"??

I guess I may have been assuming that Divx and Xvid were about the same thing... is it true that an Xvid won't play on a Divx player??

    Thanks for your patience...

  9. There is a trick, push system button 2 times when playing. This can correct that picture for SOME file types....

XviD is MPEG-4 Part 2, DivX is MPEG-4 Part 2. Still doesn't mean that you can call XviD DivX even though they follow the same standard.

DivX has very specific profiles for standalone players. Step outside of the profile and it may or may not work.

MPEG4Modifier will tell you what quant matrix it uses.
