Hi All,
I have a couple of queries regarding Divx/Xvid Play back.
1. from time to time when i play a file i notice it will freeze during playback yet the file plays ok on my PC. Is there a program i can use to analyse .avi files for possible defects?
2. When i play a widescreen file i still get the 2 black bars. My TV and recorder are both set to 16:9. It looks like the file in rendered in 4:3 then the black bars are added Any ideas?
Will updating firmware fix any of these issues?
Thanks
Flop

1. Virtualdub can scan for bad frames. Also, not all Divx encoding modes are supported by standaolne players. There are restrictions.
2. If the file isn't exactly 16:9 (1.78:1) or 4:3 (1.33), then you will get black bars. If it is between 1.33 and 1.78 you will get pillarboxing, or bars left and right. If it is greater than 1.78 (e.g. 1.85, 2.35, 2.40 etc) then you will get letterboxing (bars top and bottom). If you don't like it, use the zoom function to fill the screen, but cut off the ends.
If you want to understand why this happens, read this

In summary, it is working as it should.Read my blog here.
