I have tried many guides here and threads to do this right. Ultimately I have to ask. Please help me as soon as you can.. here goes.
OBJECTIVE: To rip a particular chapter or chapters from a DVD to make MPEG or AVIs, to be able to edit them in Studio or WinDVD Creator.
ALREADY TRIED:
Using SmartRipper to make VOBs (works well)
Using VirtualDub MPEG 2 to convert VOB to AVI (nice video output but no Audio, or broken Audio)
How do I get Audio out of the VOB in proper Stereo format (not AC3) I even dont mind creating 2 seperate streams as long as they synch well.
Please advise asap.

Hi-
You'll get the audio out of the vob in the same format as on the DVD, usually AC3, sometimes DD 5.1, and sometimes DD 2.0. Then take the AC3 and convert it to whatever you want (MP3?) using BeSweet or HeadAC3he. To get the audio out of the vob, one way is to open the Vob in DGIndex and then go File->Save Project. By default it'll also save out the audio. There's also an option in the Audio Tab to decode the AC3 to WAV if that helps you at all. The audio delay, if any, will be noted in the audio file name. Make sure you take it into account when muxing the audio with the video after your encoding is finished. -
First find which vob is the main title's starting point (the start of the movie) .
Then open the first vob in vobedit , hit demux , choose by cell id , it will ask for folder to store file's , and gose about it's job .
Each vob in this new folder is a chapter as created by the people who created it , and you may end up with chapter's which use more than 1 vob in this new folder .
If this happen's , copy the vob's for this chapter to a new folder , rename as required , say you have 4 vobs related to a particular chapter , then copy these to a new folder , and name them as :
vts_01_000
vts_01_001
vts_01_002
vts_01_003
Open this first one in vobedit .
Go to edit , then join (upper left corner)
Choose a new folder for output , and go .
You can safely now use vobedit to demux the video and audio stream's from this new vob .
As for the audio conversion , it will depend on what windvd will allow as input .
Audio shouldn't be that tricky , but for ac3 , demux stream 0x80 in vobedit .. the default english stream , then convert using besweet to required format .
Repeat the process till all video and audio stream's have been created for project in windvd .
Once all video and audio have been created , delete all non essential folder's , those holding vob's related to project .
I personally have never had any problem's with audio delay by this method . -
