Hi,
I have a very strange problem. I have a rmvb file that would not convert no matter which converter programs I used. When I view it on my pc, it worked perfectly, but if I use either EO, or TMPGENC, or the combination of both, or any other programs, it either just shut down by itself, or in TMPGENC it just converted but have a black page throughout. I even tried with DVDSANTA but that program also shut down whenever I loaded up the file. What can be wrong with the file? If it's really corrupted then how come my pc can play it? Please help. Much appreciated.

1. playback is different to encoding. Playback doesn't do as much error checking and is pretty tolerant. Encoding. on the otherhand, requires a clean source from from data errors.
2. I don't believe that tmpgenc can load RMVB natively, but it might if it set up correctly. Read this post and apply as necessary. https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=189187
3. The other software you mentioned (DVD Santa etc) is rubbish, so I'm not surprised that it didn't work, and if had worked, you would have been back here complaining about sync problems or crappy picture quality anyway.
4. Your best bet - Real Alternative, Avisynth, load as a DirectShowSource and frameserve to your encoder.Read my blog here.

wuxiaaddict, can the rmvb file be played by WMP? You may have to install a Real Alternative to have a try.
BTW, WinAVI Video Converter can convert rmvb to avi/dvd/mpeg... very perfectly. Maybe you can download one to have a try.

I never tried WinAvi; heard it's not that good of a software. I'm just fustrated because it's so strange. I never have any problem with rmvb files before. I normally use EO to extract audio into .wav file and use Tmpgenc to convert the file into mpeg. Never had a problem until now.
BTW, guns1inger, would you be kind enough to provide me with the tutorial link to Avisynth, or Real Alternative? Thanks so much
