  1. I've been having trouble finalizing some DVDs and I dont know why. I record basketball games on DVD of the L.A. Lakers and record 1 game on 1 DVD so I have 10 DVDs of the 10 games they've played so far this year.

But I've had trouble with atleast 3 of the games, I try to finalize but the screen just stalls and never finalize. Is there any reason why it would do this? is it the DVD recorder or actual DVD? for example after every game I title it then go to finalize the game, well last nights game I did the same thing but when I went to finalize the DVD it just stalled and never went through the process of finalizing. Like i said its about the 3rd time already and Im getting annoyed because I really want all the games for playback.

by the way my DVD Recorded is the DMR-ES20 from Panasonic

thx in advance for any help!

I am having a simular problem. When I capture certain TV shows on my JVC DR-MH30 using a dvd-rw in the video mode, every thing is fine untill I try to finalize the DVD, it just stalls and never finishes the process of finalizing. Also if I try to reformat the dvd-rw it just stalls.

I was wondering if you (kbRenePerezuse) use Directv? My source is Directv thru a dtv R10 tivo.

Also does your dvr reconize copy once protection? MY jvc manuel say's the JVC DR-MH30 does.

I believe there is a new copy protection either in the Directv signal on in the dtv R10 tivo. I have tried using a sima ct-200 between the r10 and the jvc, but no luck.

    Any ideas?

This is usually a problem of bad media.
Bad media tends to be ruined on the outer portion.

Use better discs, most likely. That should resolve it.

Thanks for the reply, and alot more.

Many thanks to all of the people who share thier knowledge and experince here. When I was deciding on which dvd recorder to buy, I decided on a last years model jvc (DR-MH30) because of the chipset in it, which I learned about the chipsets from one of lordsmurf's posts. Thank you.

I am using Sony dvd-rw made in taiwan, which seem to be listed as 1st class media. I am new at this and just recently purchased my first dvr. From reading the forums here I went to www.nomorecoasters.com and decided to buy the sonys. I will open another new disk and inspect it, clean it and try another recording and report back.

I believe there is a new copy protection either in the Directv signal on in the dtv R10 tivo and tried using a sima ct-200 between the r10 and the jvc with no luck. I wanted to get the TBC-1000, but the sima ct-200 was $80 and the TBC-1000 was $349. I wonder if the TBC-1000 will take care of the copy never or the copy once flaggs that broackcast TV is supposed to come out with?

  5. If you are not sure if the problem is the dvd-rw or the source material, why not just erase the dvd-rw and record some material you know is not copy protected and see if it will finalize.

    (1) Sony dvd-rw made in taiwan = good disc

    (2) New copy protection in the Directv signal = very possible

    (3) erase the dvd-rw and record some material you know is not copy protected = excellent idea

    (4) AVT-8710 TBC is only $190-200-ish, fine TBC

  7. I do use Direct TV but i've recorded about 10 games this season and I've been able to finalize 7 of the 10 so Im not to sure its the Direct TV protection.

It might be the media, does anyone know if dvd-r's from shop4tech.com is the problem? i bought them because they were so cheap.

  8. Yeah, most likely bad media. I threw away a whole batch of cheap DVD-Rs that would refuse to finalize...

If your recorder is a HD recorder with DVD (like mine is) it s not so bad - you just lose the media. If however your recorder is a pure DVD recorder (like the DMR-ES20 is if memory serves right) - I m not sure whether you are able to salvage the data off the disks. Might want to try the faulty disks on a PC and see if it can read the data off them.

    Cheers

  9. it happened again. I just recorded another game and i tried to finalize but the dvd recorder quickly said Finalizing Failed. i also tried to watch it without finalizing but it kept saying Error.

is the media lost or can i still watch it somehow and is it possible to make a copy of it and finalize the copy?
