Face transplant?, what next?

Whoa!, I just read news from a face transplant and it amazed me, what would be the results?, it couldn't be an exact face transplant because of the bone and muscular structure will differ between the two people, but I wonder how will she looks in the end.

It sucks not having a good picture, but I couldn't find one!

PARIS - The French woman who received the world's first partial face transplant is steadily regaining sensation in her new nose, chin and lips, and is "very happy," her psychiatrist said Tuesday.

The woman, Isabelle, has regained some sensation in her new features and can tell where she is being touched, Dr. Daniele Bachmann said. The woman is identified in France only by her first name because of privacy laws.

The psychiatrist said she believed Isabelle has not yet regained the ability to feel temperatures.

"She is very happy, she is doing very well," Bachmann told The Associated Press by telephone.

It was still unclear how long Isabelle will remain hospitalized, said Bachmann, one of two psychiatrists who has treated Isabelle in the southern city of Lyon.

"That is in discussion with her, she would like to go home but that will depend on her therapy and treatment," she said.

The 38-year-old patient transferred from a Lyon hospital last week to a hospital in Amiens, the northern town where the groundbreaking Nov. 27 surgery was performed, Bachmann said.

She will continue to shuttle between the two medical centers for treatment.

The face transplant patient, a divorced mother of two, received her new nose, chin and lips from a brain-dead donor. She was disfigured last year when she was mauled by her pet Labrador.

I think I've got a few pictures in one of the (numerous) New Scientist magazines I've got lying around. If not, I'll see what I can dredge up in the lab tomorrow - bound to be something lying around!

I would agree with you, though, bone structure is a fairly major feature.

I'd like to see them too. It's a strange case. She tried to commit suicide but her dog bit her face trying to wake her up. Her dog was rewarded by being put down and she later got a cash movie deal if she underwent the surgery.

BTW she is not the first face transplant case - there have been dozens of secret attempts over the years which have all been a failure.
