The subs could still be there but in an area outside the visible tv screen. If that's the case, powerdvd wouldn't show them to you either. Check your margins in dvdlab.

Another thing that would come into play is whether it's widescreen or letterbox, where you told the subs to display, and what aspect ratio you're using to watch it.

Have you tried switching subtitles to force them on. I have had problems getting forced subs working, even with IFOEdit.

  4. Do you have a button in your menu to enable and disable the subtitles? If not, then create a button as you would for the rest of your movies in the project. To get the button to enable/disable subtitles, right click on the button text/image and under "link", go to "set subtitle" and select the subtitle stream you want the button to affect.

If you want the subtitles to be on by default, then you can select the movie you want the subs enabled in the Movies area, click on the filmstrip icon beside the video thumbnails and where it says "Initially Set Subtitle", select the subtitle track you want enabled.

@Shadowmistress: I left the margins on standard so they should be correct, also in the preview the subtitles are displayed inside the visible screen. I set the aspect ratio at 29.97, which is the same as the movie.

@guns1inger: Could you tell me how to force the subs on, cause i dont now how to do that.

@non-linear: The subtitle is already enabled at "Initially Set Subtitle".

In my previous post I already asked guns1inger this but he probably missed the message so here I'll ask again.
Can somebody tell me how to force subs on in DVD-lab Pro?

For what it's worth, I'd suggest reviewing the DVD Lab Pro docs as they apply to subs. You should be importing a text file of sorts, and if nothing else, accept the defaults as far as position and colors etc. You'll have some choices for aspect ratios but I think the defaults should work -- basically what you're doing there is telling the app if it should shrink the text before sub creation so it looks good spread out wide wcreen. RE: forced subs, you can have the app set subs on by default, or just use the subtitle button on a stand-alone players remote, or usually right click on the video window and select subs in software players. THe term forced subs however ususally means subs where these switchs are turned on, can't be turned off, and would be essentially useless if they're not there to begin with.

    1. Which is it? Where exactly do you see the subs? What programs do you use to play it with on computer?

    2. Is your movie in widescreen or letterbox format? (That has nothing to do with the 29.97 framerate, it has to do with the picture size. Please post the dimension of the frames you encoded - eg. 720x480 - and whether or not you see black bars along the top and bottom of the picture when looking at it through tmpgenc.)

    3. Are you playing it on a widescreen or square tv?

    4. Are the subs hardcoded into the video or are we talking about a subtitle stream you are adding during the authoring process? You said you see them in the preview - the dvdlab preview window? If it's a sub stream you wouldn't see them in there.

    5. Do you want them to always be displayed ON by default? If so, you can set that the way non-linear mentioned. Go to your connections window, right click on the movie(s), select UOP&settings, "initially set subtitle:ON".

This is the "shotgun" approach here as some of this advice will not apply to you depending on what your setup is. Please provide us with more information to assist you further.

@mikiem: I add the subtitle by clicking on sub1, in the screen that appears I import the subtitle (I only change the font type and I mark the "Set this subtitle always ON by default" button. The rest is default.) and click on "Generate Subtitle Stream".

    @Shadowmistress:
1.I don't see them when playing the movie with PowerDVD or on the DVD player.

2.The picture size is 720x480, and there aren't any black bars.

    3.Square TV

4.Subtitle Stream, I see them in the blue preview window when I'm generating the stream.

5.There's only one subtitle and I'm not going to add more. Also I have already tried that method and it didnt work.

What happens when you press the sub button on your dvd players remote? Are you able to select a sub stream at all, even if you don't see it? Or does it act like there's no sub at all by not responding in any way?

I just recompiled and burned the DVD again and somehow the subtitle is showing up now. However the sub still isn't shown when I play the compiled DVD with PowerDVD. But that doesn't matter.

Thanks everyone for your advise, one of them most have helped somehow.
