  1. I am just starting to play with my new toy, but the first thing that puzzles me is that the image that I see from a particular channel is kind of shaky...
I am using an analog signal coming from standard antenna and if I look at it from the DVD recorder channel it has some movements and jumps along the horizontal lines (sure there will be a technical term, but I am really a newbie, hope you are getting the idea) that make the image really horrible. The thing is if I look at the same signal from the TV channel, it is better, less shaky, decent enough to look at, even if the signal is not perfect compared with other channels.
I have to say other channels are great on TV and great on the DVD recorder, I only notice this worsening on less-than-good signals.

I wonder where is my problem: noise in cables? (I have SCART connections from DVDrecorder to TV, aside than antenna cable)
too bad signal? (I was thinking about getting a satellite receiver, as that channel is free to view)
I tried to play with all video tuning tools of the Pioneer, but it seems it is already doing his maximum best.

Thanks to everybody for the help, and sorry for my naivety, I am so annoyed, 'cause I got the recorder expecially to record at best quality movies from that single channel, and now turns out that same channel has the worst quality....

Last thing: Merry Christmas to all!!!

I get terrible 'ghosting' when using my analogue input with the 530H - I haven't tried using another cable, but I got a bad feeling it is due to the 530H.

  3. I got some news on the topic, as I tried to look at the same signal, but going through my VCR (actually, this is going to be my setup, as I want to transfer many old VHS).
Guess what? The signal from the VCR is better, I would say as you I see on TV and moreover is better also looking at it from the Pioneer. So, endline: I record TV movies with the recorder by getting the antenna signal feeding the VCR and recording the VCR output.
It would be nice if anybody could have an idea if this is my error or the 530-H fault (worse syntonizer that a very old Sony VCR??!!??)

thanks to all and Happy New Year!!

Have you tried running the coax cable to your dvd recorder first. I'm guessing that the signal is weeker when running the cable to vcr to dvd to tv. Try the opposite and see what happens. -garman

Just an after thought. What if you plug the dvd player on it's own. No vcr hook-up and see how the signal is.
