I always see people yapping on the phone while driving.
I don't have one, but I would probably only use it
in emergencies. I'd rather talk to somebody in person
than on the phone.
So, what about you?

I do occasionally, but I try to get off the phone quickly so i can better concentrate on the road.

Its against the law to do so here, but many people still do.

I've only had a cellphone for about a month, and last night I tried to see if I could even do it, but it was really just to hard. I was listening to the recorded message (automated operator at my work) for test purposes and I figured that since I couldn't hear it well enough, actually trying to complete a call to a co-worker would't work either.

I do. Hit speakerphone to leave my hands free, throw it on the seat and drive.
It's amazing how some people have to have one stuck to their ear, and cannot drive and talk at the same time. The harder they listen, the slower they go, and the worse their attention span.
Others can multitask with no problem.
Admittedly, it takes getting used to, although some people just can't do 2 things at once.
My job requires me to listen, talk, fill out paperwork, and run a complicated bit of software at the same time, so multitasking is normal.
Talking on a phone and driving at the same time is simple in comparison.Cheers, Jim

if i am expecting a call when I get into the car, I will put on my hands-free device.
otherwise, i don't answer the phone while I'm driving, and I almost never dial and drive."To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research." - Steven Wright

Unfortunatly, yes (the calls always seem to come during a killer tune on the radio too) It should be be illegle everywhere. I don't do the casual calls to freinds, but for some reason I seem to spend alot of time on the phone for work (Every idiot in the company seems to call me ten times a day because they don't know their job)
I am thinking about one of those bluethooth earphones or an implant. I do agree and understand that it is not just the fumbling around with the hardware that is an issue. The simple act of talking can be a distraction (I have missed my exit more than once, but I don't jerk the wheel and try to make any manuvers without a good look either) In like 25 years of driving, I have never struck another vehicle while operating one. (I have been hit a couple of times though)
A year or so ago while sitting on a bridge for a highway exit, I counted 29 out of 31 drivers making the turn onto the bridge from the highway with a phone held against the side of their head. Sometimes for kicks, I get the kids to count the people with cell phones. It pisses off some people when they figure out what my kids are doing. (My kids are the brats that point and laugh at the other drivers and mimick them by putting their hand next to their head and rock their head from side to side like they are talking on a phone)(I don't know where they get it from either) But it is very common for every driver around us to be on the phone. Eight to 12 drivers at a medium sized intersection is not an uncommon count, and that is just the people using the traditional handhelds!
I will use the "Let me call you back, I am driving" excuse to get out of unwanted calls. But I must admit that I am still a sinner and a hypocrite when it actually comes down to it. (Zapper hangs his head in shame and closes his notebook so he can get back to concentrating on the road)IS IT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE LIKE THAT? -

I hate talking on the phone!
What I don't understand is the people that work in the call center downstairs. I mean, they are on the phone all day and the minute they get a break or are off for the evening, BAM! They on the phone. I'd venture a guess and say the probably 90% of their lives is spent on the phone.
With all of this cell phone nonsense, what did we do before the cell phone insanity?
God forbid we'd actually have to talk to someone face to face or put a hold on our inane, senseless conversations until we get home. -
A man walked into his son's room and said..."Son, that will cause blindness."
The boy said, "Dad, I'm over here." -
I do occasionally.
Myth Busters had a show recently that compared driving drunk to driving with conversation on cell phone - if I recall the drivers actually did better when driving drunk. One big difference though - you can put the phone down when things get too hairy. -
I have a headset so its not a big deal for me.
Even still, generally only in emergencies. -
First we had to worry about people talking on the cell phone,
but now we have to worry if they will be shooting with the phone.

I say again, these people should be executed as an example to others. And before you say I'm too hardline think on this, a few hundred years ago, in certain parts on England, it was a hanging offence to apear with soot on your face in public. So the idea isn't that radical.

I do sometimes. The only downer is if I'm in city traffic because my car is manual transmission.

Here in California the Senate just passed a bill that would ban using a cellphone(non hands-free) while driving...another stupid law that can't be enforced.
