What's the best way to do the above?

Would it not be wise to convert the .mov to mpeg2 and then divx? If that's an alright option, is there a free tool to do that - .mov to mpeg2?

  2. There are some Free Encoders here https://www.videohelp.com/tools?s=40#40

You are better off Encoding Right to Divx.

  3. yea, if at all possible, your always best to keep the number of conversions to a minimal......as for mov to divx, tmpegenc can do that with the quicktime plugin...just follow the quicktime plugin's instructions and then just open the mov file then go file>output>avi and it will come up with a new window that you can configure your video to divx/xvid/whatever else you want....

It's encoding to .avi (what's that - not divx?). Are you saying after that I'll get another choice - divx, xvid, what have you...?

Wow, it went from 49mb to a 2+gb .avi - trying to the other way
