  1. hi all.... i have a 1.36gig XVID that i want to bring down to around 800mb.
here's the information i got from the details in media player
    Video: XVID 672x272 23.98fps
    Audio: Dolby AC3 48000Hz 5ch 448Kbps
    Length: 02:00:44

also what program is recommended for this? i've been using NanDub 1.0rc2, for some reason the volume gets shot down about 30%.... real pain cuz then i have to crank the speakers up and i get that "air" sound..

    thanks,
    mai0f

You can just reencode it at a lower bitrate. Also lose the AC3 and convert to just stereo MP3 if the AC3 is taking a lot of space.

I don't know what the quality will be after conversion, though

You can try encoding a 5 minute clip to see how it looks. I just use VirtualDub Mod most of the time with the Xvid codec installed. VD will also give you more information about the video.

  3. If you want to keep audio as AC3 for DVD compatibility, encode 5 channel AC3 to 2 channel AC3 with ffmpeggui
When I was born I was so shocked that I could'nt speak for 18 months.
