Was just over to Staples before they closed and some of the Friday sales promotions were being put up. This included the following after rebates of course.

    Playo 50pk DVD+ and - R 8x packs for 2.94

    200gig Maxtor drive for $29.94

and a Digital Research 16x DL writer for $19.94

Of course these include rebates and some "only 1 per person" on them but I figure I would give everyone a heads up.

Sorry if I put this under the wrong form

I'm getting the 200GB Maxtor HDD ($29.99AR). As many as they will sell me at that price. $150 for a TerraByte ain't bad.

The $15AR Sandisk 512MB Compact Flash card and the $15AR MS Wireless Explorer Mouse also go in the basket.

    Setting my clock for 5:45AM.

The reason they offer those mail-in rebates is the fact that only 20% actually use them and the mfg knows it. Sometimes, it takes up to 6 months to get your money back...and sometimes, it's a store credit. Read carefully.

It's new media from ABCRON CORP. I'll probably go ahead and buy a spindle, see how it goes. Been quite a while since I had brand new unknown media to test (not just a speed increase or variation).

True, the spoils go to the disciplined. I've missed the deadline on a few.

My paper says limit 1 per customer...

but I'm going to pick one up.. I got two staples stores within about 15 minutes of my home, so there is a good chance even with Limited quantities I'll get 1.

Maxtor drives have a tendency to crash. So before you dump $150 on those drives, consider that Seagate and WD (even though they might be more expensive) are better drives. What's your data worth to you?

agreed....I wouldn't use a Maxtor if you gave it to me free....based on my experience as well as others I know.

Bummer. Mine doesn't say that but the rebate fine print is what counts.

I haven't had any drive bought in the last 5 years crash. Last bad one was a 3GB Western Digital.

    Woo Hoo !,
Staples Rebate form says Limit 3 per name/address. Plus the rebate can be filed online.

Got 3 200GB to replace my remaining 40GB, 60GB and 80GB drives. These become backups.

Now I've got 820GB in the primary editing machine, 360GB in the Premiere editing machine and 650GB in the PVR machine. That's enough to cap more HDTV

UGH!! Guess I should have looked at the rebate form before I left the store...

The front page of the flyer mentioned "Limit 1 per customer. While Supplies Last. Applies to items on front cover only" on the front page with the "early bird specials" so I assumed....

Lordsmurf, While I respect your opinion... Unfortunately, I've had more Seagate and WD drives fail for me then Maxtor over the last 15+ years...

In the last 10 years alone I've had 1 maxtor develop bad sectors (was replaced under warrenty), and a two get "noisy" so I replaced them rather than listen to the whine...

In that same time frame I've had a total of 6 Seagate and WD drives develope bad sectors and just fail to spin up/clicking noises... not to mention the whine noisy ones... just in my PC's... my brother just lost a Seagate then a WD he put in his external USB enclosure. Dropped in a maxtor, and its running fine.

HOWEVER, I still have a trusty old Seagate ST251-1 (MFM) that still runs great

So, its a case of "your milage may vary."

Yeah, and they make you mail in the rebate with UPC. All the others went in online*. So anyway I have 50 of them for $2.94 AR. I'll use them for utility HD TS clip caps.

*Staples rocks with online rebate processing. Saves all that scanning.

  23. I bought this same Maxtor 200 gig drive from Staples for $49 for their President's Day sale earlier this year. No problems on that drive with almost 24/7 useage. I bought another one today to add in the system. The Fluid Dynamic Bearings are nice. Can't beat $30.

I just installed one of the 200GB Maxtors into my PVR computer and partitioned it 55/45 (100GB/88GB)

Next I ran the Canopus Raptor sustained transfer test. The fastest inner part of the drive scored 63MB/s read, 60MB/s write, while the 55% point hit 52MB/s read, 45MB/s write. Plenty fast for most things video. Each new drive is a bit faster than the last.

I also picked up a Maxtor this President's day at Staples. Been running fine ever since. I picked up another one today. I wanted the DVD Burner but they were sold out. The Playo Disc were Made in Japan, but I didn't need any today.

Anyone see those clips of doofs tripping over each other to get earlybird specials? Waiting 10 hours outside with strangers and these 2 guys came to blows inside the store. Total idiots...

I bought most my stuff in ebay and newegg and simply had it delivered.

I got to see the comedy Live this morning. about 815AM at my local walmart two palettes of 20inch TV/DVD Combo boxes fell into a bunch of DVD recorders. Nobody was hurt in the avalanche but the people picking up boxes and shaking them to see if they rattled was funny. People were putting them in their carts too.

Having seen the Frenzy working in retail in the late 80's, this was my FIRST BLACK FRIDAY shopping experience as a customer...

I got to the staples #0932 (about 5 min away from my home) just in time to stand in a line of about 125 people waiting to get in for about 1 min before the doors opened and it started moving...

Once inside, I got the HP scanner, the Maxtor HD, and the PNY 512 memory key... and was out the door by 6:25!!

The store employees and manager did a GREAT JOB organizing everything, keeping the lines moving, etc!! even with 1 register that the Debit machine didn't work!! (they had to keep going up each register line and letting people know if they wanted to pay by debit card, get in another line, apparently there was 1 customer who COULD NOT READ the big sign they had hanging from the register # post!!)

I wanted the Quick Cam (this store was out) so I took a chance and went to the other store (about 15 minutes the other direction, not sure the number)... I got there about 7:15am... WHAT A MISTAKE!! it was a MESS, people Everywhere, no order, total chaos!! I was sure fights were going to break out!! And the fire alarm went off!! I could not wait to get out of there... Glad they didn't have the web cam, and that I didn't try for this one at 6am!!!

I came home, rebates submitted online in under 5 min... Very nice...

  30. The code for the playo dvd-rs are UME01 and although rated at 8x can't be burned any higher than 4x on my LG-GSA 4163b burner, even with the newest firmware. I guess for $3 after rebate for a 50 spindle I didn't have anything to lose but burning at 4x really sucks. Hopefully Staples will have better deals the day after christmas.
