  1. I have a Sony DV camcorder and I can't figure out how to get the video on my computer using the USB port. That's the first problem. Second: I need to know where to find info on making a video home movie that I can edit. Then I want to add a slide show at various parts of the video and have music in the background through the whole thing.

I tried to run a search, but I really didn't know what I was looking for. I'm not sure if there is a single program or if I will have to use multiple programs. Please help!!!

  2. The USB ports on DV camcorders usually isn't meant for video transfer, only still images. You need to use the firewire (IEEE 1394) port to transfer video to your computer.

Then you'll need some video editing and DVD mastering software. The easiest solutions are programs like Sony Vegas, Ulead Video Studio, etc.

  3. I do not have an IEEE port on the back of my computer. Is there an alternative?

I was able to transfer the video directly to vcd through the USB. However, there was no sound.

  4. If you want quality results, buy a firewire add-in card at best buy, etc. They run only about $20 and up. some even come with basic video editing software.

USB can sometimes be used to trnsfer low quality video as well, but if you want DV then firewire is the only way.
