    Hi folks,

This is my first post so thank you for your attention. I’ve downloaded Final Fantasy VII the movie in an .avi file thru the internet and this source quality is awesome. Well, now I want to convert it to mpeg2 using CCE 2.70.02.01, but I’ve a few questions:

Should I use CCE CG (Smooth) mpeg matrice, the CCE Standard matrice or the MPEG Standard matrice? I’ll do this conversion using MPEG-2 for DVD, Multipass VBR with V/C 25 and MIN/AVG/MAX Bitrate 6500/7500/9100 kbits/sec.

Should I use CCE CG simple setting under picture quality for this movie? Or I should never use this settings unless I’ve a truly noise source that needs some filtering?

Thank for your attention again. I think I’ve another question about the nature of this source: Is it really a CG movie or an animation? In such high bitrates like what I am using should I use the standard MPEG or CG matrices?

    See you later,

    Aeolis

  3. Get The FilmMachine along with CCE 2.67. It's a great piece of software for making high quality dvd's from your avi files. During the CCCE encoding process, it even has a template that lets you select between natural picture, animation, or computer graphics. That should do the job for you.

Sorry. I posted a response, re-read it, found it didn't make much sense (lack of sleep will do that), and couldn't re-write it.

Without actually seeing the source it's hard to give a true answer, however as the goal of most CG nowadays is to be as photorealistic as possible, I would suggest that the CG matrix is probably not appropriate.

The best way to decide however would be to use avisynth (or virtualdub) to frameserve a few minutes of footage and sample a couple of different settings. See which one produces the feel you are after. There are few absolutes, and often a short set of trials using different settings can be much more productive that taking someone elses work for it and not know it was wrong until 3 hours of encoding is done.
