If the is Audio Is compliant, (Sounds Like it Might be) Then you really dont need to Encode it.
If you Need to..... Convert it to WAV and Use that. -
Are you trying to make a dvd from the avi???
Then just split out the ac3 and convert ONLY the video. Many authoring programs like tmpgenc dvd author will work with seperate video and digital audio. Since you're ripping out of the same file and not converting it there SHOULDN'T be any synch issues.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -

To extract the audio - Open the file in VirtualDubMod. Go to Streams > Streams List and select the AC3 audio. Click demux. The AC3 audio will be extracted from the AVI file and stored separately.
Now open the AVI file in TMPGEnc. Select Video ES option and encode to DVD specs M2V file.
Use the extracted audio and converted M2V file in TDA to author to DVD VOBWhen I was born I was so shocked that I could'nt speak for 18 months.
