I've tried a number of guides and programs from various sites that result in a file that Premiere cannot import. And therefore I cannot use. I've also tried recording the DVD through my TV to my video camera, but it only has an input not an output, so that didn't work.

So now I need one of two things.

    1) A program that converts the DVD to a format that is readable by Premiere

    The official website says this:
    Video formats:

Type 2 AVI, MOV, MPEG/MPE/MPG, Open DML, and WMV

Note: Type 1 AVI clips must be rendered before they can be previewed from your DV device. To render a Type 1 AVI clip, add it to a sequence in a DV project, and build a preview file of that section of the timeline.
    2) A program that will remove the XviD codec that was put on by AutoGK, or convert it into one of the above formats.

This is for a school project (Video Production) so quick help would be very appreciated.

I don't have a lot of experience with file converting and so on, but I learn quickly. If there's anything I forgot to mention that would be useful please tell me.

There's several ways, but i'll steer you in the general direction..
    Get Virtualdubmod.
Also, download the PanasonicDV codec for recompressing..

Load the specific .VOB's (the guts of your VIDEO_TS folder), into Virtualdubmod...
With the slider, and in/out points, choose what you wanna dump..
Then go to Video>Full Compression>Panasonic DV..
Then go to Audio>Full Compression>PCM audio (uncompressed).

    File>Save as .AVI (bla bla)...
You should be able to happily load this into Premiere and run with it..

    Good luck!!!!

    Sorry, one more thing.

What do I do with the codec .dll file? Sorry for being such a n00b in the situation.

You mean the Panasonic DV .dll? Right click on the PANADV.INF and select 'install'. That will install the .dll and allow VDMod to use it.

    Alright I have a problem.
First I used DVD Decrypter to get my .VOB's. But when I loaded them into VirutalDub I get a whole bunch of these messages (with different values.)

MPEG: Anachronistic or discontinuous found in audio stream 29 at byte position ######## from ######## to ########. This may indicated an improper join.

So I decided to see what I could get out of it anyway and I went to video and set the compression. But then there is no audio menu so I don't know what to do there.

Then I go to file and there is no 'save as', just
When I click it I get the following error messages

Error 418: Capture device was not detected

then I hit OK and get this

VirtualDubMod cannot connect to the desired capture driver. Trying all availabel drivers.

I hit OK once more and get this.

PANIC: VirtualDub cannot connect to any capture drivers!

I'm now in PANIC too, what can I do here?

Is there a different way I should capture my .VOB's? Is there a setting I'm missing? What's the deal?

I'm not sure about the results you are getting.

I would select File mode in Decrypter and rip the whole disc to your hard drive. You will have a lot of files.

Then start VDMod and open the VIDEO_TS folder you created with Decrypter. You should see all the VOBs listed. Select the one you want.

The audio selections are under 'Streams', 'Stream List'.

Right click on the audio there and select 'Full Processing Mode'. Right click the audio again and select 'Compression'. Select PCM, if that's what you want. If VD says no AC3 decoder, DL one from Vhelp.

Then go to 'Video' and select 'Full processing mode', then 'Compression' and find your DV codec and select it.

Then you should be able to 'Save As' from the file menu, and you're done.

I probably got some of that wrong, I haven't done it in a while. But that's the general method.

When you check the file with AVIcodec or Gspot, it should say, 'Sony Digital Video' and PCM or your chosen audio format.

If the DV is Type 1 and premier needs Type 2 or visa versa, you can change that. Look under DV in the tools menu and you should find a changer.

    Good luck.

Everything works until I got to save as... and get the message no audio decompressor could be found to decompress the source audio format.

Did you try installing the AC3 Decoder? That's all I needed to do, and restart the program and it saved fine as DV.

EDIT: I used this one with VirtualDub, not the one that linked. This one is freeware and works great.
