I bought this piece of hardware and am at a loss as to the combination of things I need to capture quality video from a VHS tape, copnvert to a format suitable to DVD and actually make it work on the dvd player. Using the software included the quality of capture is really really bad. Ive been trying some different software packages here like Virtual VCR but I cant seem to get that to capture period. What can you guys recommend I try or should I just scrap the whole thing and try a different product?

Oh and to add, im looking at the Hauppauge WinTV GO product. The reveiws seem good as well but Id also like some more opinions in comparison to the Pinnacle system. ..

I apprecaite any help I could get.

You are pretty much locked into Pinnacle software with that box. If you go through the Pinnacle forums, you will find all the issues and workarounds for that product.

  3. Some movieboxes, if they appear as MovieBox-B, can be operated with CaptureFlux (in the tool section). There seem to be different models of MovieBox, and only some are working. Perhaps you may try.

Well I got it working pretty decent. The video is about 10% off where the original tape was, and the audio is about 50% off quality. Im using standard red/white/yellow cables. will better cables help this? or is there a codec or filter i can use for this?

Quality 100% now using the PIC Video Lossless codec. Really nice picture. Sound is still off, but I havent tried any audio codecs with that yet.

Im reading up here, and if Im desiring to fit 3 hours of tape on 1 dvd im going to have to lower the resolution and bitrate correct? The way it is right now, 720x5.. 6000kbits produces a file 1 gig big for only 3 minutes of video!

IM gonna have to go buy some dvd+rw's to test with here.
