    Hey guys!
I'm new in the video capturing thing and I just bought a Pinnacle studio Moviebox Ultimate in the USA.
I'm from Brazil and to begin I already had a problem with the colors thing. All the captures turned out black and white because of the color system compatibility problem (we use PAL-M here). To solve that I bought a software that works as a transcoder. It worked but the video quality wasn't what I expected.
Someone told me that it would be easier and better to buy a DVD recorder to convert all my vhs to dvd.

My question is: wich dvd recorders are good and are they better than my Pinnacle studio Moviebox Ultimate?
If it's better I'll consider in selling my capture card...

Thanks a lot everyone for the attention and for the help.

There will be a limited set of DVD recorders with a PAL-M tuner for over the air or PAL-M analog cable reception. You would feed this from your PAL-M VCR.

If you can purchase a dual standard PAL-M/NTSC-M VCR, you can output composite NTSC and capture that with your NTSC Moviebox. You might be able to find a dual standard combo VHS VCR+DVD recorder. These would only exist in the Brazil market since only Brazil uses PAL-M.

    Hmmm, ok.
But comparing the capturing quality, wich is better, moviebox's or dvd-recorder one? I'll use them to convert my old vhs to dvd...

The MovieBox would be better for editing on the computer but to make that work you need a dual standard VHS player.

A PAL-M native DVD recorder will do fine for simple cuts.

It's a PAL-M specific hardware issue. If you switch to "PAL" the box expects Euro PAL 625/50 video with subcarrier at 4.43 MHz. PAL-M is 525/60 with subcarrier at 3.58 MHz. Pinnacle would need to specifically support PAL-M.

Argentina also has a unique form of PAL called PAL-N. PAL-N is 625/50 with subcarrier at 3.58 MHz.

Well, I won't need to edit almost anything... those vhs are full with video clips, concerts and band performances... the maximum I'll need to do is to transfer to the computer and separate the performances/videos.

I guess I'll have to find someone that has a DVD-recorder here and compare to my rip...

    Thanks guys for the help!
