Well 480x480 is obviously joing to look better. It's SP MPEG-4 only though right? Then again the AVC support is only baseline profile. I'd take it back and get a refund.

Maybe not. If I remember correctly the video iPod has a 320x240 display.

It can output to another display though right? Increaing resolution won't always help, but even with only SP features, 2.5mb is plenty for 480x480 so my answer stands.

Even though it was a flippant and unhelpful answer? The guy's just bought his iPod and is clearly excited by it. Then Mr Grumpy comes along (that's you, in case you missed it) and rains on his parade for no good reason. Clearly a guy hiding behind the name celtic_druid knows best and the millions of ipod video buyers are all wrong wrong wrong.

Perhaps your parents should have returned you to the hospital and got a happier version

I have an iPod, I bought it because it was the best way to avoid having CD's in my car. If Alpine or someone else did an adaptor for another player then I might have bought something else though. I never use it outside of my car. I have another player for that.

Whilst I was paying out on the iPod, I did actually answer the question (unlike a certain someone else). Although if it is true that the screen is only 320x240 and the original poster wasn't planning on outputting to another display or playing on another device (was never specified) then as said there is no point in having the extra resolution. The fact is though that the SP MPEG-4 @ 2.5Mb/480x480 should look better, so I fail to see how my answer was unhelpful. Now if my reply had just been "take it back and get a refund", well then you would have a point.

and I will continue to pay out on the iPod video, people who drive automatic cars and anything else that I feel deserves it.
