Hey. I just read a "guide" on how to do this, but it didn't really help. It's right here:
https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/147947.php
Can anyone else give me a better explanation?
UPDATE: ok so now I can convert from WMV to AVI, but the video is very choppy in AVI not to mention having a tranlucent green screen over the video. The video's also inverted. Very confused now, don't know why it would do this. Tried Stoik and TMPGENC xpress like Baldrick said, but both give me the same effect.
What I'm really trying to do is add permanent subtitles to the WMV, but TMPGENC can't open WMV's so I'm converting to AVI's. Maybe doing this is easier than just plain converting to AVI.

I don't know how to improve on that guide. What specifically are you having trouble with?
