Hello, I can't seem to find an answer for this anywhere, so please forgive me if this has been asked before.

For some reason, installing any Quicktime Alternative version after 160 beta 2 makes me unable to play .mov videos on Media Player Classic. They just crash when opening. Using different versions of MPC does not make any difference, no matter if downloaded separately or using the one that comes with the QTAlt installation. Changing the output filter (default, DirectX7 or 9) also does not affect this strange behaviour. The problem also occurs no matter what codec used on the .mov file.

I'm just clueless here. I can't understand why all previous versions played .mov files just fine, and not a single later iteration of the software worked. I'm also find very strange that no one else seems to have the same problem. You would imagine that searching this on Google would get at least some positive hits.

Does anyone have any experience with this problem? Thanks for any help.

Just guessing, but it sounds like a corrupted codec. Changing versions may still leave the codec in place. If you haven't tried it, delete the quicktime codec and re-install the program.

If you get nowhere, maybe try VLC Media Player. It plays most any format and uses it's own codecs, so it's one way to check for codec problems.

I thought about a corrupted codec. But by that logic, once broken, I would need to re-install everything from scratch, right? That's what is strange, if I just install 160b2 over 164 (for example), it works again. And I have even tried installing 163 and 162 on a fresh Windows installation to no good.

I also use VLC, since it plays almost everything great, but its interface is somewhat awkward and I miss some features from Quicktime Alternative, like saving HD files (the ones Apple insist on making us have iTunes to get).
