  1. I have all the 180 TV. Sitcom "Seinfeld" episodes on 13 cd's in divX format. They were encoded from broadcast feeds and or vhs playback, since there are no current DVD seinfeld episodes available.

My question is, has anyone else encoded the 180 Seinfeld collection? And if so, what programs/sources did you use?

Just curious to know, since my episodes range at different quality levels, I would be curious to hear what others have experienced.

  2. I would suggest TMPGEnc... It works great for me... To be honest, I would LOVE to get an offsite archive from you in DivX format...

  3. It is pretty hard to get 180 episodes when they only made 168.

  4. I capture them as re-runs and then encode them to VCD - I've downloaded a lot of the DivX's from IRC and the quality is pretty low - you'd be better off capturing them yourself ... the quality will be much better

I hate to break the news to you but Seinfeld made 180 episodes in 9 seasons. Actually 178 singles and 2 "Clip" episodes for a total of 180

  6. Stinky,

You're right, a lot of episodes from downloadable places are poor quality, and it'll be better to encode yourself from t.v. broadcast if you have the "time" to do that, which would take months following the episode guides (when they air, etc). Also, on season 9, there is an episode called "The Puerto Rican day parade" episode that they banned in the US.

  8. I too capture Seifeld from all the rerun's (2 ep's Monday - Saturday) and I use VDUB.I encode the episode to divx and burn. The quality is very good. The ep's on IRC suck because they all encode to .asf which we all know sucks.
I'll give you my settings in another post.

I myself, am about to begin the process of making a VCD boxset of the entire Seinfeld collection (looking at 3 episodes per disc). But first I'm finishing up my boxset of "Land of the Giants". I am using my I/O Magic PC PVR card to capture directly from cable.

Check out the sample clip on my homepage for the type of quality possible. http://pages.prodigy.net/tcperconti/

As for creating VCDs from Divx source, I wouldn't recommend it. The resulting quality will not be worth the effort, IMO. Re-encoding highly compressed video to MPEG is going to magnify the imperfections.

  10. I remember seeing "The Puerto Rican Day Parade" (in USA). The one I can't put a name on is the one where this guy in the building goes into a coma and Kramer wants to go get his toaster (or was it a vacuum cleaner) back "before the looters come". haha. One of the first episodes I saw. Never found out the name of that one.

  11. I enconded that same set to vcd format(60 vcd's), and used tmpegenc. Its ok to watch, but I have been capturing the reruns, so eventually I can have a quality set. It'll work until something better comes along. It only took about a week of endless encoding!!

The episode you're referring to is called "The Suicide". It first aired on: Jan 29 1992, season 3.

  13. sracer,

Wow, 3 episodes/cd should be incredible quality. Good luck with that project.

  17. Being the poor encoder that I am, I am waiting for *someone* *anyone* to offer encoded versions of the episodes. I have a DVD burner and want to make a "boxed set" of high quality episodes myself... Anytone want to work something out?

  18. He he he. I always liked Seinfeld, but only ever downloaded one of the DiVX versions myself.

I had to have a copy of the "master of your domain" one. Funny stuff....

Yah I know, its off-topic from VCD making.
