Is this possible? I can't play DivX on my little portable dvd player, but would like to be able to watch a tv programme out in the styx.

Each episode is 30mins long. I don't need high quality results, just something watchable on a small screen.

I'm totally new to this and would really appreciate any help at all, even an aggressive push in the right direction.

Yes, although the quality will be so-so. Try using ConvertXtoDVD for an easy way to do this.

Use 352x4810, quality will be fine. Remember to restore overscan if it's missing. ConvertXToDVD does all of this.

6 x 30 minutes is only 3 hours. No need to use lower res, just use full 720x480 (or 720x576 for PAL).

You can use a rate of over 3000 bps, which is more than adequate for your average sitcom or drama.

    YMMV.

I burnt short samples at various rates to see what it looks like on a TV, as opposed to a monitor.

I actually have a cheap compilation DVD, which has 22 episodes of a sitcom (ca. 22 min each) on one DVD 5. They used 352 x 288 (similar to VCD). Bit blocky on a large screen. Watchable, but I prefer not to squeeze it that much myself. 12 x 25 mins per DVD is my maximum for the ones I author.

Heh, thanks everyone . The last 2 forums I asked for technical help in gave me nothing but snide, unhelpful responses. Now I've actually got a resounding positive answer to a question. Thanks again!

I would give FAVC a try, if only because HCEnc is a great encoder when the bitrates start to get low.
