I have a Sony NTSC format Hanycam DCR-HC40. Recently my friend had record some tape with with his PAL format hanycam and want me to transfer it into computer. I use Premiere Pro 1.5 and try to capture the video, but the video only played on the camara and didn't show any image on the capture window in premiere. .. I tryied several times with diferent setting, but no success. Is there anything I can do to make it work? Thanks!

One unwritten feature in Sony's D8 & DV line is they can play both PAL and NTSC, regardless of whether it's a PAL or an NTSC camcorder to begin with. But, for example, you have an NTSC DV camcorder (like your HC40), although it will play back correctly a PAL tape (and the PAL DV stream will correctly appear at the DV terminal), the device control of your capture program will mute the stream if it's not NTSC because it has detected an NTSC camcorder and expects an NTSC stream. Depending on the program used, there is a way around this. In Premiere, device control can be set to "none" then the PAL stream will not be muted and can be captured onto the HDD (linearly, with no extras like scene detect or batch capture). In Windows Moviemaker, it's not as clear whether or not device control can be turned off, so capture may not be possible with this program.
For the nth time, with the possible exception of certain Intel processors, I don't have/ever owned anything whose name starts with "i".
