Hey all! I am working on a project for school and I am trying to cut different clips from movies in join them together for a presentation. I was wondering if there are any programs that can allow me to cut clips from DVDs as well as AVI files and then allow me to join them later on and burn them to DVD or VCD. The catch is I don't want to copy huge files onto my hard drive cause I only have about 10 GB to spare so I want to be able to copy the specific clips from the DVDs and AVI files (I have the AVI files on CD) and put them on my hard drive. Any help would be great. Thanks!![]()

Sorry, I forgot to mention in my initial post that I want to be able to insert text between clips. Can either of those two programs you listed do that?

Insert text in what manner? Are you preparing to have an 'intro'/'credits' of some sort for the next clip and so on? If so, you can do this project via authoring; TDA, DVDLab Pro, DVD Architect. If you wish a single plain background frame with text then it is possible provided the frame(s) are saved as bmp, jpeg, gif then to mp2 etc or something compatible with your authoring software. Then again authoring will allow you to write a degree of text and change background image for each individual track/clip.

Well Geeman, I want to put an introduction for each clip or series of clips. I don't think I will need a background, just some nice-looking text which states what each clip(s) will be about.

One way or another you need to convert your clips to the same format before you splice them together.
Virtualdub for rough avi cutting and TMPGEnc for converting them to mpeg.
Womble Mpeg video wizard for final cutting, splicing (and inserting text into) your mpegs. It has fades/wipes and titles.
Tmpgenc DVD Author to author a DVD or VCDEasy to author a VCD.

Alright, thanks for all the help ZippyP. I will download all the trials when I get some free time

Hi all
I want to do something similar, but the clips i want to cut from the unencrypted dvds are only a few seconds in length each. Im currently starting to look at videoReDo and avidemux but all i want is about 3-5mins of a montage of ~ 4second clips from various dvds. So what's the best prog for editing these v. small mpeg-2 clips?
thanks folks
