I've been thinking of buying this Pioneer DV-343 player, but I read that one downside is that there are noticeable breaks between one DVD chapter to another.
Does anyone who ownes this player have this problem? And how is it noticeable?
William.

I own a 343 and I think the vast majority of feedback has been very positive on this unit. Mine does show a fairly noticeable (1/4 second?) break or hesitation between chapters. Of all the problems you could have, I believe this is relatively minor. I recommend the unit to other people and would buy another one.

I have not noticed any hesitation between chapters on my 434 (which is the progessive scan version of the 343). On one of my discs I noticed a slight lag during a layer change... but since it was only on this one disc, I figured that it was the disc and not the player.

I also have a 343, but have never noticed any hesitation or break between chapters.
I'd definitely recommend it to anyone. The only thing I don't like about it is the remote, which is a relatively minor grievance given some of the other DVD players I've owned...

I recently bought the Pioneer 343 after having a piece-of-junk Samsung 611. I love the 343. I'm fairly new to VCD and SVCD but this thing has played everything I've put in it so far. I just burnt an SVCD onto a Memorex CD-RW 80 min and the 343 handled it very well, then I put the SVCD into my friends Sony DVD player, and the Sony looked like crap. As for breaks or pauses between chapters, I've only seen that happen once so far on the 343, and it happened so fast that the pause didn't bother me at all. Buy the Pioneer 343, you will be pleased I think.

Thanks for the reply, I will buy this player now, 'cos those chapter breaks are not that bad, I'm gonna use it mainly for VCD/SVCD playing anyway.

Could a bad authoring be the problem, not the player? I know that Nero 5.5 has an option to specify how many seconds you want the delay between tracks or chapters be (I don't remember the exact thing).

I have not noticed the chapter breaks at all. Maybe I'm not watching closely enough!
