  1. Hi,

For the longest time, I was using my ATI A.I.W 9600 card along with VirtualDub and getting great results. Then two things happened. First my computer crashed, and then when I went to hook everything back up after fixing it, the pins on my purple ATA adapter plug (that connects all video capturing cables to the card) were bent beyond repair.

I'm currently awaiting a replacement adapter, but I'm very concerned. VirtualDub basically does not work for capturing now. It recognizes my ATI card, but I cannot do anything with it, even test captures. When I try this, it provides me no hypothetical data and does nothing.

Can anyone tell me (or possibly check) if VirtualDub cannot work when nothing at all is plugged into the video card? My Pinnacle Studio 9 will still capture blank video, but my VirtualDub will not even try. Everything else on my computer (lots of programs) work just fine.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

  3. ATI MMC has frames that are way off for me atleast.

  4. ATI Multimedia Center doesn't have many feautures. It does not allow you to select an alternate audio input. It also doesn't support filters of any kind. I thought it was crazy that the highest resolution it supported for AVI capture was 704 x 480!

ATI makes a good capture card. You just gotta learn how to use it. The software encoding can be so touchy. In other words, so don't your computer while it's working! Kind of a pain, but I get good results from it.

    MMC has video soap filters.

  6. ATI MMC has video soap filters, but only for MPEG2 capture. It is not available for any AVI captures. I can only speak for the latest version 9.08, this is what I have.

There is not reason to capture higher than 720x480. You will will worse quality video by upsampling. Not to mention you do not have any source that high res. None.

I was saying that ATI MMC only allows 704x480, when 720x480 is the general standard. It's not a big deal, but definitely kind of odd.

By the way, I finally got VirtualDub working again. It suddenly started working again once I upgraded my Pinnacle Studio 8 to the latest version. I have no idea why this is, but apparently it loaded a necessary driver or something.

704x480 is the native chip size. And 704x480 is as "standard" as 720x480 or 352x480. It's a valid DVD res.

I concur with Lord here. I've tried a couple of things and nothing gives me a better picture worth messing with more than MMC does. If I want to edit out commericals, capture with Pinnacle Studio and edit them out there or upload it to Pinnacle.

No issues no problems with either since installed over a year ago, minus messing with the MCC builds and Driver Builds that causes nothing but audio errors or features not working on the MMC. Going back to the oirginal drivers and MMC build solved all that and I aint touching it again...
