Hi,
I want to buy Canopus ADVC-55 converter but I have a question:
- My computer is a laptop and I have a PCMCIA FireWire card ( Conceptronic SnapPort FireWire PC Card ), here you can see details:
http://www.conceptronic.net/site/DesktopDefault.aspx?tabindex=1&tabid=200&Cat=30&grp=3...&Prod=CSP1394C
- I want to know if I also need to buy Canopus power supply for ADVC-55 device or simply it will work with firewire power supply.
Thank you in advance.

I go from six pin to six pin, and I don't have an external power supply. I assume you wouldn't either, and judging by that PCMCIA card, it's a 6 pin. You should be in the clear.

It's not clear if that PCMCIA card can supply power, especially enough for the Canopus unit. The ADVC-55 seems to draw about 600MA. I would get a power supply.
The laptop PCMCIA Firewire card I have has a plug in for an external power supply, but I use the supply that came with my ADVC-100 when I use it on the laptop.
I think it's probably better not to draw power off the laptop if you don't really need to. -
Or look into an external (self powered) unit such as the Plextor, or the ADS Pyro AV/Link. They work very well.
