    Probably because Pinnacle is crap.

But your chance of getting a helpful answer would increase slightly if you gave a hint as to what the error actually was.

  3. It is hard to say if pinnacle itself is a crap or if a combination of a set
    of products is a crap.

I have tried Pinnacle 9 on two machines. One is motherboard with
Intel chipset. The other is with VIA chipset. As you may guess, I always
get problems with the machine with VIA chipset. I hardly get any
problem with the machine using Intel chipset. I believe my editing
activities is about the same on two machines. Since the software runs
on one machine well, I cannot say it is buggy for the software. On the
other hand, the machine with VIA chipset only has problem with two
products. One is Pinnacle 9. The other is WinTV GO card. Other than
these two products, the machine is doing very well for all other
applications (Internet, CD/DVD burning, DVD player, and etc). I do
not know which one (if the motherboard or the software) should
be blamed. The only thing I know for sure is that the combination
of the motherboard and the software is not good.

I have a similar experience with an AMD machine also about a year
ago. The machines was doing very well on almost all tasks, except
one, I.e., BeSweet for audio encoding. After searching the web, I got
a suggestion for increase the VCORE to fix the problem. But this is
    too much work for me.

  4. Oh, I should have mentioned that the motherboard with Intel
chipset is ECS. The motherboard with VIA chipset is Soyo.
Certainly, it is also possible that the bad combination is the
software and the motherboard, not the chipset. Who knows.

Maybe. But there have been dozens of people here (maybe hundreds) who've had problems with Pinnacle. Perhaps it was just a combination of Pinnacle with their motherboards or other products. But I'd still say that if a program has that many problems it's crap- there are too many other programs that do the same thing without the problems.

  7. Did you try applying the latest Pinnacle Studio 9 patch? I couldn't produce a mpeg until I installed the patch.

  8. I've had a lot of trouble with Pinnacle over the years. You can visit their support forum and see the same debates raging that were going on when I used to try hard to get it to work.

Have you made sure you have LOTS of free space on your hard drive? You need 1.5 to 2.0 times the size of the video you are working on.
