  1. I try to use DVD Shrink to Burn Resident Evil 2. It analyzes it to about 15% and gives me the error "cyclic redundancy" Anyone know what that means? The only other movie that wouldnt let me burn is Hitch.

I believe it means the disc is scratched. See if either or both of the discs are scratched

dvdfab decrypter will sometimes work but i have found dvdxrescue almost allways works on this kind of problem. this is what it was made for.

  4. You need to rip the movie using DVDDecrypter ( file mode, all of the files to HD) or use AnyDVD. What you are getting is the new Sony Arcoss protection and Shrink can not handle it. DVDFab Decrypter will also handle it but I think it rips only the movie

I'm with stackner, whenever I have a movie that has been scrtached up pretty bad I use dvdrescue. If that error occurs with blank media then it typically is associated with cheap media. If cleaning doesn't help then using decrypter to ignore read errors and maybe that could fix your problem.

I have dvdrescue as a part of the x platinum program. I don't use either any longer, better programs (resuce is great though for badly scratched disks) for making backups.

  6. I used DVD FAB. It creates two folders "audio" and "video". So after it is done, I used DVD Shrink?

Do I go to "open files" and then select the "video" folder or the "audio" folder? It won't let me select both.....but then does that mean I will have no sound?

  7. nevermind, there is nothing in the "audio TS" folder.....I wonder why it create it then?

Is DVDFab better than DVDDecrypter? I tend to get confused with all the ISO/ IFO stuff. The reason I use DVD Shrink is that it is easy, one stop click analyze, encode and burn (all in one!)

    MovieDud (and stackner):

He is trying to back up Resident Evil 2. He is using DVDShrink. The DVD he is tryihg to back up is encrypted with one of the newer forms of copy protection -- Sony ARccOS. This form of copy protection will always cause DVDShrink to fail, every time. It was developed after DVDShrink was abandoned by its maker.

In many cases, the error message that DVDShrink spits out when it encounters this new form of copy protection is the "CRC - Cyclic Redundacy Error" message. Yes, this is the same message that often means a dirty disc, or a scratched disc. In these cases, though, it means nothing of the sort. It means that DVDShrink could not read the disc because of a deliberate structure protection. Sony ARccOS.

Here is a list of most of the Sony ARccOS discs, and also discussion about the possible solutions to let one back up these particular discs:

    http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=48842&highlight=Sony+Arccos+running

Resident Evil Apocalypse Two Region 1 (and the original Resident Evil Apocalypse, in regions 2 and 4 and 5) are all examples of this copy protection scheme, which will cause DVDShrink to crash or display an error every time, no matter what. In many cases, this error will be the CRC error. The solutions vary widely, from DVDDecrypter version 3.5.4.0, to DVDFabDecrypter, to DVD43, to MagicDVDRipper, to AnyDVD, to DVD Region+CSS Free.

    Hope this helps to clarify,
