i have had my Haupauuge Win TV PVR USB 2 and the program Movie Factory 3 SE for about 2 weeks now and have converted( 4) 60 minute analog tapes to dvd format and was amazed at the quality and the ease of use.
I use a BenQ 162I external burner (16X) and in these prior examples I used 4.7 gig discs.
The brands that BenQ phone support said have been tested on the burner with success and they are Sony, TDK, Imation and Maxell R+.
And I always burn in DVD ROM and all my backups played in all 5 family standalone dvd players, all of which are of various vintages and brands. I have never had a coaster when doing just a regular backup of a dvd and was holding my breath on this new conversion and everything went fine.
I am totally content with my burner which I have had for about 8 months now and of course with Hauppauge and Movie Factory 3.

Now I want to convert a 180 minute vhs tape to DVD as I have a large collection of VHS music concerts that are not likely to come out in DVD format.
Now, this is where I am confused. Since the tapes are so long I was wondering if I should purchase a small pack of DL's and use them.
However I read somewhere about "breaking" in the process and did not understand the terminology and thus decided to post.
When I convert, the vhs tape content goes into my "Video Files" on my HD as an MPEG.
And I see all these terms about MPEG's, AVI's etc. and I don't want to make a wrong move in my first long project.
i don't use Nero Vision Express as I like the quality of Movie Factory 3 SE and now wonder if I should try to do this project in multiple 4.7 discs or will I get a message that says there is insufficient space on the first disc that I put in?
Also I wondered about how the 180 minute music concert would get split on the multiple discs?
Could I end up with 170 minutes on one disc and the second with 10 minutes?
I am sorry if these questions sound mundane, however I am really fresh at doing this.
i try to research out my projects before jumping in head first, especially because these DL's are expensive.

i look forward to experienced comments and I apologize if I put this in the wrong forum.
I am confused about the term capturing and encoding and further because I am converting from analog to dvd into MPEG.

Again, thankyou for your time.
