1st--try the "default" or "DSL-speed settings. Then adjust from there.

Defaults/DSL on QT4/5 were based on Sorenson3 video codec and QualcommPureVoice or QDesignMusic audio codecs

On QT6, they were based on MPEG4 (SimpleProfile) video codec and the MPEG4 (either AAC-LC or AMR) audio codecs

QT7 might default to h.264, but I hope not. That's too high a bar to set (horsepower-wize) as a generic "default".

Expect very low bitrates to look best with 160x120@10/12/15fps material, std. low bitrates to look best with 320x240@15/25/30fps material, medium bitrates to look best with 640x480@30fps material, and high bitrates to look best with any material up through HiDef specs.
